REMBRANDT Harmenszoon van Rijn
“The Angel Stopping Abraham from Sacrificing Isaac”
1635. Oil on canvas, 193 x 132 cm
The Hermitage, St. Petersburg

It was very exciting today to welcome the family and friends of Nicole and Nicholas Jones for the baptism of Bailey Raines.

Abraham, the father of the three major spiritual traditions in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, was celebrated for his faith in the reading from the Letter to the Hebrews. At such a late age (100 years) Sarah gives birth to Isaac and a brand new future opens for them and for their descendants. And for Bailey Raines, a new future of her and the beginning of her life as one with Christ is celebrated on the faith of her family, friends, and this special church community.

The Congregation repeats the word “Haimanuta,” the Aramaic word for “faith.” This is the actual word that Jesus used which he celebrated in the faith of so many in the Gospel. Faith is a fluid, magnetic-like field that surrounds those for whom we pray, bringing God’s healing to others.

And so the joy of the congregation uplifts our guests and one another.
