Before the resurrection of Jesus, Peter had his own form of stubbornness, saying “If it’s you on the water call me to yourself.” There are other times when Peter before the resurrection resisted Jesus’s words; for example he rebukes Jesus when Jesus said that he’s going to suffer and be crucified. But after the resurrection, Peter shone so brightly that people just loved to be near Peter so that his shadow would fall upon them for their healing.
Here are brief poetic expressions of the thought of Meister Eckhart:
We should not thank You
because You love us,
but thank You
that You are so good
that You cannot do anything else!
If I hope to find You,
I need to let go of all I think I need
to know, turning from what I desire
to become the emptiness You
cannot resist.
