A very wise spiritual director once remarked “people have to be loved into forgiveness.” He likes to ask students to make two lists: one people you need to forgive: and two, people you would like to thank. The first list is the hard one to deal with; but if you start with the second, forgiving starts to pick up a possibility to forgive.

The peace of Empires is not true peace. Religious voices that call for conversion, justice mutual hospitality and community as foundations for peace are often the first to die when hostility breaks out.
